When do you typically give the survey?

My real estate agent wants a copy of our survey for the buyers of our home. They haven't even signed the contracts yet. So, we aren't even in contract and they're potential buyers. They did the home inspection. When is the normal time to provide the survey to the new buyers?

I think most of the time, it's something that the buyer's attorney will ask for once the transaction is in the attorney's hands (which is usually after the home inspection is done). The attorney may ask for it after contracts are signed, but it could come up before.

I see nothing wrong with giving it earlier, if it's been requested. In my office, when we have listings with irregular-shaped properties, we often provide copies of the survey to prospective buyers at open houses.

I think when people are transparent and forthcoming about information, it tends to make for better feelings on a transaction, and a smoother transaction. There's no reason to wait to give it to buyers until they are in contract... even if there's a concern or an issue with the survey, better to resolve it sooner rather than later, imo.

My attorney had the survey for the house we're buying in his hands when we signed the contracts. So he definitely requested it before contract signing.

The survey was available to us before we even made an offer, the agent had it as an attachment to the listing.

The sooner the buyers attorney gets it the better. If the deal falls through it's not like they can do anything with it.

I put a house on the market in March and our broker asked to have the survey when we listed, to be able to show it to potential buyers. Same thing happened when we put Mom's house on a few years ago.
