When do you play games with older child?

I have a 4.5 (almost 5) and 2.5 year old. My 4 yr old DS is into games, but I find it hard to play bc my 2 yr old DS wants to play too. I feel bad leaving him out, but it becomes a crazy mess. My 4 yr old wants to learn and play and my 2 yr old doesn't have the patience to sit and learn. He just wants to get to the pieces and make a mess.
When my LO naps my 4 yr old is in school so that doesn't work. I try to give them their own time on weekends to do things they like to do so we usually don't play games then. DH will take 4 yr old to Home Depot and they make a project or we go to the movies and my 2 yr old will do library or nap when the older DS does something more for his age. That or family stuff.
Does anyone else feel my pain? Chat Icon
This is how pieces start to get missing and I am a neat nut so it drives me nuts. LOL

Candy Land Train Game
Candy Land
Memory
Disney Kids Headbandz Game

Those are all good games for both 2 and 4 year old children. When we do memory I only took out 6 pairs to start and then gradually increased the number of pairs to make it easier for the younger child to join in the game.

When ds2 is asleep. Otherwise he just eats all the pieces.

Re: When do you play games with older child?

Glad you posted this. I'm feeling so badly tonight, because I never have time with my older child! I have a 3.5 and 5 yo. Tonight I put the little one to bed 30 minutes earlier (even though he had a huge fit) and read / talked to my older one. It was so nice!

I think this is what we are going to do from now on. What do you think about putting the 2 yo to bed earlier?

My 3 yo can not play games, he is a total PITA

I do this. My 2 yr old also goes to sleep about 15 mins to a half hour earlier than my 4 yr old. My 2 yr old loves to pull things apart while my 4 yr old is neat and likes his toys in order. They are so opposite.
To the PP... we do have Candyland, CHutes and Ladders, Guess Who, matching, etc. We do get a chance to play, but my 2 yr old wants to join and not exactly play. He takes the pieces and invents his own thing. Either that or throws stuff. Chat Icon
