when do they understand what NO means?
If Allison is doing sometign she shouldnt like crawling over to the wires of the computer i say NO in a stern voice and she stops and looks at me but it doenst last long. I know she has no idea what it means she is just hearing my voice change so she gets startled. Any ideas?

When you find out, let me know.
I have a 5 year old and I'm still waiting for him to fully grasp the concept of "no".

I was just thinking the same thing!!
DD loves to blow raspberries with a mouth full of peaches and I always say no, but I know she's clueless (and really cute!!)

Re: when do they understand what NO means?
I think DC finally figure it out when *they* have kids....
The more important question is, when do they actually *listen* to the word "No". They understand what it means long before they actually follow it....

Re: when do they understand what NO means?
From what I've read, they usually understand around 9 months. We're at 8 and I don't see any sign of it

I think they understand about 8 months too. What they understand more than the word "no" is the tone of your voice.

Re: when do they understand what NO means?
When Kaitee touches something that I don't want in her mouth (the dogs rope or wires) I say no in a stern voice. She looks back and smiles. Normally she wll crawl away but sometimes she will go to touch it again. I say no everytime she is about to touch it and she eventually gives in and leaves it alone. I know she understands what I want. She is 9 months old and she has been listening to no for about 1 1/2 months.
