When did you start making major baby purchases?
I'm due in January and plan on ordering furniture and registering for all the major items sometime in August...... Does that seem like a good time frame?

sure, I am due in the beginning of Dec and I am prob going to order the furniture in about a week or so.
I think you are fine. The only thing with some places for furniture you need to check how long it takes to ship.

I'm due in August and I just ordered our furniture 2 weeks ago and picked it up yesterday. But i called JCP back in April to find out how long it takes to ship.

wow that seems really early- I am due 11.18 and I was figuring on ordering the furniture like a month ahead- but we also plan on having the baby in a bassinet for the first 1-3 months

um, i think i ordered the crib, mattress and dresser at like 34 weeks...
if you can do it earlier, go for it. i just put it off until i couldnt' any longer.

I registered at 20 weeks. The earlier you register, the more you have to keep checking back to make sure stuff hasn't been discontinued or changed.
I actually didn't order furniture, and it worked out well for me because my mom got my crib and my sister got my dresser at my shower yesterday! But, if you don't want to do that I wouldn't order until around 30 weeks.

With DC #1 I didn't register until after I was 24 weeks only because I'm very superstitious.
We also didn't order the crib until I was 30 weeks, but we made arrangements to have it delivered AFTER the baby was born and home (again, superstitious, we brought nothing baby related into the house until after she was born).
We did purchase the PNP, Car Seat and Swing a couple of weeks prior, but kept them at my father's house until she was born. Well, except the car seat which we installed in the car the day I went to the hospital to be induced.
ETA: I haven't registered with this pregnancy because DD is is only 16 months old so we have all the necessities already. Again though, the furniture will be ordered but not delivered until after the baby is home.
