When did you start cereal? and a few questions..
DS is almost 4 months and Im thinking of starting cereal soon but I have some questions'
1- How old was your DC when you started?
2-Did you put it in the bottle or feed with a spoon? (Ive heard mixed opinions on this but not sure why its unsafe to be put in a bottle if its really thin)
3-How much cereal do you give in a feeding and how many feedings a day?
4-How long do they stay on cereal?

I didn't give dd cereal as her first food. I gave sweet potatoes. I started her at 5.5 months. Cereal was her 4th or so food. When I did introduce it, I mixed in a little BM.

When did you start cereal? and a few questions..
With my first, we started at 4 months, as per our ped, due to slow weight gain. With our second, we waited until about 6.5 months. We never put it in a bottle, always on a spoon. You need to get guidelines from your ped though, as far as when to start, how much, and how often to give it.

Thanks. I did speak to my Ped. and she said I can start DS at 4mths but she didnt say (and I didnt ask) how much to give or whether to put it in the bottle or spoon. I guess I'll ask at his next appt.

we started in the bottle at 3 months due to reflux issues. at 4 months we started on spoon, as per ped. i use my own discretion with the mixture, but i started almost entirely liquid, and moved to more solid as he got used to it. we started w/ rice but it caused constipation, so now we do only oatmeal.
i think generally the ped won't say to put it in the bottle unless there are reflux issues.
i do once a day--at this point, it's just to get them used to eating and swallowing food; it isn't for the caloric value.

We started with rice at about 5.5 months. We did 1 Tbsp mixed with formula until it was a pretty runny consistency. We started with just once a day.
DS really didn't care for the rice, so we moved to oatmeal right away. After we started fruits and veggies we mixed those with the rice cereal and he would take it that way. I didn't want to waste the rest of the box!

I started at 4 months. My Ped said anytime after 4 months when he was "food ready". DS took to eating from the spoon right away to we went with it. I started with a tablespoon and upped it from there.
2x a day. morning and night

4 months with DS.
DD didn't take til 6 months.
My pediatrician had us start with a spoon... Except for DD. she wanted cereal in the bottle because she wasn't eating. The pediatricians who want it early do it to minimize allergies.

4 months. Spoon only. He wasn't a fan so I then went to homemade purées. Sometimes I add oatmeal to his am fruits.

Hi - I think DD is the exact same age as your DS.
I plan on starting her on spoon fed cereal in a few weeks.
with DS I sprinkled a little in the bottle, but then mixed it very loose with BM.
DD won't take a bottle at all, she will only nurse, so I will have to start her with the spoon.

Pediatrician started DS on cereal at about 4-4.5 months. He started with rice. We spoon fed him the rice cereal. We gave him about 2 tablespoons and mixed it with formula. THe ped said to give him as much as he wants but 2 tablespoons seemed to get him full. We did rice first for a week, then oatmeal for a week, then barley for a week. He seemed to like the rice the best. Then we started him on applesauce for a week, then pears and were on bananas this week. Next week is peaches and then we start the veggies.

as much as she wants/wanted. started with 1x a day, then 2x.
she still has cereal at 10 mos.

We started Oatmeal, Peaches and Pears all at 4 months as per my pediatrician. We mixed the oatmeal with formula (1 tbsp oatmeal to 4 tbsp formula) for the first few feedings. Then I realized she liked it thicker...1:1 basically.
She is now 5 months and will have 2 tbsp oatmeal mixed with 2 tbsp formula, or I'll just mix some with her peaches/pears. She has it about once a day. Then she'll have sweet potatoes mixed with a fruit for her 2nd feeding.
