When did you register DC for preschool in Public School?

We are planning to send DD to preschool in our district public school for next September.

My question is: when did you register your child?

I called the school and they told me to try back next year in the Spring. I guess Feb, March?

I thought parents registered their children way in advance for fear of there not being anymore space left in the class.

I'm in a different state, but here you register in january/feb all the way up to June for the coming sept.

And here only the "challenged" children get the majority of the preschool spots...they only allow 15% of students per class to be "normal" and that is a quote from the principal...not to mention no full time kindergarden either, no where in this state unless you go private and that's a maybe..Can you tell i'm a bit frustrated with these districts here?

It depends entirely on your district.

Public Pre-K programs typically have registration in the late spring, some have a lottery, some have spots for everyone. I know in the district I live in (Comsewogue) they have 50 spots, so if they draw your name, you are in. If not, you are on your own. The pre-K is at a daycare center. I know that Middle Country has two dedicated pre-k/kindergarten centers, so a lot more children get in there.

In My town it is done in March for the following Sept. Our town does a lottery system for spaces. It is a free district if your choosen. There are only 50 spots.

PRIVATE pre schools are the ones you sign up mega early for as spots in the good ones are taken usually fast.
