When did you decide on a Pediatrician??

Sorry to butt in here...just wondering when you all decided on a pediatrician and how you came about finding the one you use.

Also, how soon after you left the hospital did you take your child to their first appointment? Do you have to meet with the doctor before you had your baby??

Also, if anyone has an good recommendations in the Queens/Nassau area I'll take them.

Well, I live in NC so I can't help with a Pediatrician, but I found my son's who I absolutely love through all the women who work in my OB/GYN's office. They highly recommended the same office. I would start there. They recommended 2 offices and then I did a little research on them and then chose the one that was more convenient for me.

I had a c-section on a Sunday morning and left the hospital on Thursday and brought my son in for an appointment I believe was that Friday. So he was a week old.

My OBGYN recommended the pediatrician that we use. A lot of people I knew also were using the same one so I decided to go with it. I planned on interviewing pediatricians but never ended up doing it.

I'd recommend meeting with the doctor before the baby is born to make sure you are comfortable/confident in the doctor's approach. (I think its best to meet with at least two pediatricians so that you can compare and see the differences between offices as well). My daughter went to her first appointment the day after we left the hospital.

We chose the pediatrician when I was about 36 weeks. He was recommended by my obstetrician. This pediatrician had an open house, we went and I loved him. He didn't have privileges in the hospital where I gave birth, so he visited my son at our place the same day I left the hospital. A week later we went to his office for my baby's first appointment.

I live in Manhattan so I don't have any recommendation for you in your area.

I am in CT, but we interviewed peditricians based on recommendations we received from our friends who have babies already. I interviewed two at about 34-35 weeks pg. The ped we chose is not affliated with the hospital i will give birth in so we will see him within 3 days of the baby being born, then 1 week after birth, 2 weeks after birth, then the monthly appt's start.

I never met with my pediatricians beforehand since I know a ton of people who use them. I did give them a call the week before I was due to let them know they'd have a new patient.

In the hospital, I gave the doctor's name and someone from the practice came to check Katherine all the days I was there. I had to schedule an appt. for her two days after we got home.

The practice is called Children's Medical Group and they're located in Bayside. FM me if you're interested in their info.

I "interviewed" my pediatrician on my due date... Thankfully, I liked them and they came highly recommended.

My ped. was recommended by some friends who were very happy with the practice. I interviewed (one of them) about 2 weeks before I had the baby. I came home from the hospital Wed and we had our first apt Friday. We are very happy with them. They are in RVC if you'd like the info. FM me .
