When did you...

start to feel connected to the baby?

I feel like I am having first trimester depression or something. I don't know if it is because I feel so miserable all of the time or what... but I never get depressed and all of a sudden, I just feel that way. I am not excited like everyone says I should be... and I don't really FEEL (besides the morning sickness and actual symptoms) but I mean I don't feel emotionally, connected to this pregnancy. I feel terrible about this already. Should I? Is this uncommon? Or will I start to feel connected at a later time?

Re: When did you...

During both of my pregnancies I never "felt connected" until I was out of the gross stage... once I felt better I started to show and felt like I really was pregnant. And once I felt the baby (babies) move, it was a major improvement in my demeanor.

It'll get better. You just feel poopy right now - all the time. It's hard to feel good when you feel like that.

Re: When did you...

This is my 2nd pg & I haven't felt connected to the baby in either. In fact, it's my dirty little secret, but with the shock of being a new mom & the sleepless nights, I didn't feel really connected to my ds until he was a few weeks old. I thought I was terrible until I started reading on the Parenting board how common it is. I thought that it would be different this pg, but so far it's more of the same...I don't like being pg (it's a means to an end for me) & I can't wait for it to be April so that the baby can be born. I wouldn't worry too much about it; things are changing so much in your life right now, but you'll get there Chat Icon

Re: When did you...

I never felt connected with my first pregnancy, and now that I am pregnant again, and he will be here VERY soon-- I still don't feel connected. I thought things would be different this time since I am already a parent, but it's not.

I know that once the kid gets here, I will absolutely be connected since I am obsessed with DD-- I think some people just aren't into being prego. Try not to stress about it. Chat Icon

Re: When did you...

i started to feel connected and real when i went for the nuchal scan. It was a baby in there, who moved adn did baby movements, not just a mass of cells. May sound heartless, but also with myexpanding waist line, it makes it more real and more connected. I also dont feel so crappy anymore. I read in one of my pregnancy books that if youplace your hand on your belly every night for like 5 minutes it will help connect you to the baby and use it as your bonding time.. dont know...just a suggestion. YOU are an amazing person, dont think differently..

This was me too. Also, at my 20 week sono we found out it was a girl. I was so convinced it was a boy that it took a few days for it to sink in. Once I knew the sex though I think that helped to give her more of an identity and really feel that closeness.

ITA with this too! I felt the first distinct movements a few days before we found out the sex. Both knowing it was a girl and feeling HER made her seem like a real person and helped me connect.

DH I've noticed also became more excited/involved/curious after the 20 week scan when we found out the sex together and after he's felt her kick.
