When did LO start laughing???

My DD is 4 months and 1 week.. still no laugh.. I don't know why but this has really been bothering me.. then I was with my friend and her 5 week old and he was hysterical laughing..
Has anyone else had a child who just didn't laugh??? I think I'm overly paranoid.. I feel like somethings wrong developmentally.. or she isn't happy??

Re: When did LO start laughing???

I distinctly remember dd's first laugh was on Mother's Day and so she was just turning 5 months old.

Everyone meets milestones differently. Is she showing social awareness (looking towards you, smiling, etc.)? Definitely look at the big picture and not an isolated skill.

When did LO start laughing???

He laughed right before 4 months, but now at 5 months you still really have to work for a laugh. I can't wait for crazy laughter.

When did LO start laughing???

She actually is way ahead with most her milestones.. she rolled over at 8 weeks.. at 4 months she is crawling, she is very strong physically. She smiles and recognizes us..
I know I am being overly paranoid, but I just feel like she isn't happy, which I know is a crazy to think.
I'm a ftm and overthink everything. I'm happy to know that the 5 week old laughing just happens to me something he's doing early and it isn't the norm.

Same here! We have had a few belly laughs over here but it's hard work to obtain them!! I got a laugh today because I dropped her bottle cap and it bounced oddly on her high chair tray. She thought it was quite amusing! But still not the hysterical laughter I have heard just a few times. She is 5 months and one week.

My son did it on the early side by 2 months because he laughs every time his older bro gets in trouble (evil kid). But, when your child is working on one thing developmentally, other things lag a little. If your daughter is so physical, which is not the norm, she may be focusing on that. My older son walked at 9 months but didn't really talk until 2.

Re: When did LO start laughing???

DD laughed at around 3.5 months. It's not a true "laugh", but it's more than just a "squeal of delight". It's not often...i get the squeal a lot and a TON of smiles! love it!Chat Icon

Re: When did LO start laughing???

Oh the other funny thing was that DS would laugh at the most random things. His very first true laugh at 5months was when I took the nasal bulb and pooofed it on his neck/cheek. at 5.5 months he had his first crazy laughing spell over an empty gatorade bottle being bounced on a table!!??
I totally remember thinking/worrying that my DS wasn't happy because he was so stingy with his laughs (and was a tough/serious baby in general). At 2years old there is no question he's a happy kid (still has an odd sense of humor though Chat Icon ). So try not to worry!

Re: When did LO start laughing???

2 months... however I think it's the only thing he did on time or ahead of time... he's been late with everything else. He's not a big laugher though, I have to really work for it, he's pretty serious most of the time.

ETA. I don't think you should worry about it, as long as the baby is interacting with you in other ways like eye contact & making noises it's probably totally fine.

When did LO start laughing???

I've been trying to make her laugh for weeks.. I posted this last night to kind of see if it was worth mentioning to her dr at today's visit.. which it wasn't bc it seems normal, but I mentioned anyways bc my paranoia LOL. Dr assured me she's happy and healthy and no worries..
Came home from the dr laid her down to change her diaper and was talking to her-- and she started laughing.. I of course tried to get her to do it again when DH got home and she won't ..

When did LO start laughing???

I think I finally got DD to laugh around 5 mo. It happened once and then pretty much never again, she was such a tough customer.
