When cooking Pad Thai...
...recipe calls for dark sesame oil and chili garlic sauce..I HAVE toasted sesame oil and chili paste...can I sub? TIA!

I'm pretty sure toasted sesame oil IS dark or Asian sesame oil. Light sesame oil doesn't have that nutty flavor. Chili paste and Chili garlic sauce are two different things. The sauce is more liquid and it has a little less heat. I think if you add a bit of chicken or veg broth and some minced garlic you will probablyl be fine using it though.

I also have hot chili flavored oil (with toasted sesame added or something like that)...as for the toasted sesame oil, I think you are right..I think I'll get the other sauce that's required, though...thank you so much for your help!
