whats the mmr shot??? WITH ANOTHER QUESTION
mt son got his frst round of shots the other day as well as he received the hep b in the hospital, i have to be honest I never reserached this stuff, why does everyone delay the mmr???

Not everyone delays it. There was a link between thermisol which used to be in vaccines but is not now (although if you split the MMR it may be in those doses).
We aren't delaying anything. My DH is an EMT for the FDNY and we really can't risk DS being exposed to anything. DH was exposed to hep b when DS was 3 months old, had DS not gotten the shot in the hospital then DS and I would have had to move out for an entire month
It is a very personal descision and I really think you should do a lot of research on it.

the MMR vaccine is given to protect babies from measles, mumps, and rubella. measles and mumps can have dangerous complications, including death. rubella isn't so dangerous for infants, but it is devastating to unborn children. so we vaccinate everyone to keep pregnant women from being exposed.
there is no strong evidence supporting any link between autism and vaccines. but there is plenty of evidence about the deadliness of diseases that we vaccinate against.
i personally plan to vaccinate ds as soon as he is able to be vaccinated, because as a health care worker i have seen a good number of these diseases and it has never been pretty. i also get exposed to a lot of these illnesses because i work in a hospital, so all the more reason why i want ds protected.
if you want to learn more about vaccines in general and about specific illnesses, the center for disease control has a ton of valuable information for parents.

there is a study that proved MMR is NOT related to autism. So, you are safe, don't worry about it.

My pediatrician is adamant about MMR shots NOT being a cause of autism. He explained to me that this theory started from some obscure study somewhere and people ran with it. I, personally, am really on the fence especially since you hear mothers swear that their children changed after having the vaccination.

Dr. Sears has a book called the Vaccine Book. It is written to give information about the different vaccines but doesn't tell you they are bad....he does offer an alternative vaccine schedule which is what we have chosen to do.

But if you hear more from those mothers, including Jenny Mcarthy, you'll find out that there were signs from many months before the MMR shots. Besides all of the scientific evidence, all of the stories from parents proves to me that it CAN'T possibly be related. Jenny stated in interviews that in hindsight, things that she thought were "personality quirks" of her DS turned out to be early signs of autism. So, even a person who says she strongly believes it was the shot, admits that it couldn't be.

Thats right, long have been studies that showed that there is NO link between MMR vaccines and autism, yet they were ignored. Infact, recent studies completed FEB 5, '08 http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/96078.php again supported the repeated speculation that there was no link to autism .
In fact, if we look at the history of this claim, it all started when the science community realized there was a lot of mercury in combined shots. Though research showed there was no harm of too much mercury, speculation still exists that it can harm and they mandated for 'non necessary' mercury to be removed from all shots. That is what sparked the whole debate. Most shots mercury was decresed in, except for MMR which needed it. That is why parents associations - who are uneducated in the medical field- took that information and related to their unfortunate events. They lobbied that mercury (and mercury in MMR) caused autism. They commisioned a study in London that showed there may be autism. Since than, that study has been discredited, and in fact, if you do a search on the researchers they are now being charged and their license is being taken away. In fact, ALL STUDIES, old and new, show there is no link.
So, I think parents should do full research (not just articles from moms, but medical articles ) before exposing their kids to REAL dangers of serious illnesses and death.
on a personal note, I know a mom who gave NO vaccines at all, and their child unfortunately has autism.

Many people have heard and read about the moms out there that swear their child was different and then was diagnosed autistic following the mmr shot but at the same time, medical studies seem to show this is not the case. There are strong opninions on both sides of the fence. Many people after hearing about these moms have now decided to do delayed vacciantions or none at all. They delay for the belief in some cases that the child's immune system will be stronger when given the shots thus able to handle what is in the shots and also space them out so their children are not receiving a variety of shots all at once.
Personally, I will tell you I have literally made myself sick over debating this in my head as my ds is due for his first round of shots in two weeks. Once you start reading and researching there is a lot out there that and some of it on both sides is just downright scary....these moms swear to what they hae seen and how can you not beleive so many of them and when you look at the list of reported reactions, it's scary....but then again so many kids get them and are ok and the science has not shown it....it's tough....
