Whats the earliest...

How early can you deliver without any problems with the baby? Got a little freaked out yesterday, I am 34 weeks and they did a non-stress test on the baby. Everything was fine, but they noticed I was having small contractions. I could not feel them, so dr. did an internal and my cervix is completely shut, but it kind of freaked me out, so now any cramps or back pain, I get alarmed. Anyone else know about early contrations? TIA

I know the baby has a very good chance of surviving (with complications) at 27 weeks. At 34 I think its just the lungs that arent fully developed but I think thats an easy fix with steroids. I am not 100% sure though.

Re: Whats the earliest...

Yep. With my first pregnancy I was put in the hospital at 34 weeks with contractions (that I too did not feel or at least didn't realize what I was feeling) but I was 90% effaced and 1cm dialated. I was there until 36 weeks and delivered at 39.5 weeks. This pregnancy I started feeling the tightening and slight cramping (which I now realize was what I was feeling the first time) at about 32 weeks. The found I was contracting but nothing regular and my cervix was fine. I went back at 34 weeks and was 1cm dialated. 35 weeks no change, still 1cm, cervix is still long. I go back on Tues to see what's going on.

I honestly wouldn't worry, just try to take it easy and drink lots of water.

To answer your question 37 weeks is truly considered full term but my dr said 36 weeks is fine to deliver. I believe 34-35 weeks the baby would be kept in NICU for a little bit but would also be fineChat Icon

When I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks, they said he would be fine, but that he would probably have to be in NICU for a couple weeks until he could breathe well on his own.

The lungs begin to fully function at 32 weeks so I think anything after that you're OK. Of course the closer you get to full term the better but at least you can keep an eye on things.
