Our ped and our pharmacist told use to use a cold air humidifier. They said the warm air ones breed mold very quickly, which you don't want dc to be breathing in. Also, as they get older there is a danger of the child pulling it down on themselves and getting burnt from the heated water inside the humidifer.

Exactly - the ped said for us to use a cool one for the same reasons stated above
