whats the benefit to whole milk?
just curious. aside from the calcium, which can be achieved through other forms of dairy, what is the benefit of whole milk? my DD (14 months) is solely on whole milk now but doesnt drink as much as when I breastfed and almost never finishes her sippy. I am wondering if I need to encourage her to drink more, or leave it alone. TIA!

I really think that as long as they are getting calcium and fat elsewhere you don't have to force the milk issue.
It doesn't have a ton of iron or other vitamins...it's really for the calcium and they do need the fat for brain developement (hence why they say use whole milk rather than lowfat)
But DD LOVES yogurt and I get her the full fat yo-baby yogurts.
She also loves cheese.
So I don't worry too much that she isn't over the top with milk drinking.

Does she like yogurt? Whole Milk Yogurt is a great way to replace some of the milk they won't drink.

yep, she loves yogurt...eats it every other day or so. plus cheese. sting cheese is her favorite. thanks!

Its not the fat that is important but the type of fat (DHA being the most important for neurodevelopment) - this is why recommendation is now 2% to whole under 2 and skim or 1% for 2 and up.
If baby eats well and wide variety of foods its not a big deal.

Question- does regular whole milk contain DHA?
