What's best for a 2.5yo - leap pad, leapfrog tag or leapster explorer?

Are they all somewhat similar? Which is the most age appropriate for a 2.5yo?

Looking to entertain a toddler on a long road trip and on a plane.

I posted on the other thread about the Leap Pad but my honest opinion is, I don't think a 2 year old would get much from the Leap Pad. I don't really think they would get the games and be able to follow along and play them correctly. It's *technically* for ages 4 and up but my 3 yr. old is a whiz with it however, she's also pretty tech savvy. I wouldn't bother with the Leap Pad until your DC is a little older.

DS is 2y8m. We used to have the iPad and DH sold it. DS used to be able to play with the iPad. Thought it may be better to get DS his own leap pad vs giving him our new iPad.

DD is 2 years old and already plays with her brother's leapster explorer. I purchased 2 leap pads - I had a 40% off coupon to Barnes and Nobel for electronic toys and so both kids are going to receive leap pads. I figure they can share the game cartridges and DD tries to use our computers already.

If i Had to choose 1 of those you listed I would go with the Leap Pad.
DS is very into stuff like that (he has his own ipod touch since he was 3yo) However it took much longer for him to get into actual video games such as the explorer. The Leapfrog Tag is great for reading but at 2.5 are they really learning to read? I mean DS has hte tag Jr and has loved it and we are upgrading to a Tag this christmas but he is nearly 4 and wants to learn to read and has some understanding of phonics. Tag Jr is great for those who just love books and it has lots of learning functions (shapes, colors etc) But it only holds 5 books so if you are looking to entertain a child on a long trip he might get bored of it faster than the leap pad

Thank you for the helpful feedback. I am going to get him the leap pad.
