What would you give a 2 year old for a runny nose and cough?
Since allergy season started my 2 year old has had a constant runny nose and post-nasal cough. She also has a rash under her mouth. Is there anything I can give her? I would hate to take a day off to bring her to the pediatrician because she isn't running a fever and is acting/sleeping normal.

What would you give a 2 year old for a runny nose and cough?
Is it a cold or allergies?
For a cold I give simialson, elderberry syrup and hylands cold medicines
Allergies I don't have experience with but I know they make childrens allergies meds. Or even Benadryl

Unless it's getting worse nothing. I let colds just run their course.

For allergies our Ped had us try Claritin, didn't work, then Zyrtec, made DS a zombie, and now Flonase which has worked wonders for him.
For colds I do pain meds during the day (Tylenol or Ibuprofen) and pain meds + Benadryl at night to dry them up and help them sleep

This unless he's in pain like body aches, I then give him Children's Tylenol but try to keep this at a minimum.

I think at 2 we were allowed to give Benedryl
But you need to get the dose from the ped.
DD would get really bad post nasal drips that would make her cough so much she'd vomit.
The Benedryl was great at drying that up

Are you sure it's allergies? I'm not sure at what age they develop them. ..
I actually just took 3 YO DD to the dr. she had a cough and runny nose. Turned out it was an ear and sinus infection. Ped said benadryl at night to dry her out and she's on amoxicillin.

Benadryl for drying the all that post nasal drip, and if there's a residual cough I give her a touch of buckwheat honey and it stopped the cough.

That's the thing... It is so ironic that it's during allergy time but I feel like she is too young for allergies. I'm going to take her to the ped.

I think you should call your pediatrician as none of us know your childs medical history. Especially with any doses of allergy meds or benadryl as those are dosed based on weight.

i dont think they have to be a certain age for allergies... my nephew has had them his whole life, hes 5.5...
Robitussin and hylands have cough syrup

Ok next time dont post an obvious question if you dont want an obvious answer. I wasnt trying to be rude to you but there are a lot of new moms on here that sometimes look to other moms for advice and dont always check with the pediatrician. No need for a snarky reply. I wasnt being rude just trying to be nice.
