What would you do re: furniture?

So DH and I went furniture shopping yesterday. We found 2 sets that we love but are torn on which one to get.

First, we saw a new Babi Italia set at BRU that we loved. It is affordable and with a coupon would be even more affordable. It is rated better in the Baby Bargains book and a good buy.

Then we saw a Munire set. It is beautiful. It is $900 more than the Babi Italia set and that is with the sale price on the Munire set that expires 10/31. Munire is rated best in Baby Bargains because you get more quality with the higher price tag.

Both sets are lifetime cribs so they set will be the childs as they grow. I think the Munire is a better quality and will probably grow better with the child but at the same time, children are hard on furniture.

$900 difference is a lot of money though and can be used for so many other things.

This morning I wake up to an e-mail from BRU that they are having a 10% off sale on Babi Italia through 10/27. Is it a sign?

Any thoughts on these 2 brands that you can help us make a decision with? Thanks.

I am a firm believer in getting what you want regardless of the price if you can afford it of course....so aside form the discounts, which one do you like the best?

our decision factor was what we liked best. Not the price. Which furniture looked better in our room - a very small simple room.

That said, you should also think about wheather or not you will truly want to have the furniture grow with your child. Though many are 'lifetime', do you think you would get sick of it and than want to switch it? Are you going to have more kids, that will use that as a crib? I guess what I am saying is, I don't know if you should use the price to justify that far along. Just see what fits best in your room. AND, if you still like both of them the same, i would go for the cheeper one especially because both are good quality - even though the Munire might be a bit better.

There is a $900 difference?!?!??

I would get the less expensive one myself. $900 is A LOT of money, even if money isn't a big deal to you.

Personally, I don't like the idea of lifetime furniture to begin with - so I wouldn't spend an extra $900 either way, but regardless $900 is a HUGE difference.

What is to say that your child is going to even like that style when they are 10, 12, 16??? We went in to furniture shopping with the idea that this furniture is only going to be around for a few years.

Also - do you plan on having more kids? This would also factor into my decision.

I would NEVER sepnd 900 more on a crib, period. Get the cheaper one, you can put the other 900 bucks in a college savings account or something.

I was in love with a Munire set when I first looking around for furniture. I decided on a set at BRU because #1 the quality was there. Price was 2nd to me so I was so happy when I found a quality set at a great price.

I really liked the Babi Italia set there too. I would put the $900 towards something else like seriously the baby's bank account or something. You can find quality furniture at great prices. It's the name that makes it so pricey.

As far as other pieces of furniture I was pretty close in buying a Dutailer glider and ottoman. Together it would have cost me around $600. I did some reasearch and baought a glider that got great reviews in the Baby Bargains book from Target at half the price including the ottoman. It's very comfortable and does it's job.

This is the way I looked at it, when we bought my daughter's nursery set. If she draws, breaks or ruins it as a toddler would I be pizzed- yes so I am not spending that much. We bought 3 pieces for the nursery; crib, chiarobe and changing table/dresser. The whole thing was just over $1000 and now that we are expecting number 2 that set will stay in my nursery and my daughter is going to her big girl room and getting different furniture. With the lotions, wipes and everything else that is been spilled, dripped and dropped onto her changing table/dresser if it ruined it and I paid $900 more for it I would be livid. We paid $400 and it's held up and will for #2 and when that one is ready for his/her big girl/boy room then if we need to we will replace furniture.

The other thing; we didn't know what my daughter was when I was pregnant. We bought medium wood set for nursery and did everything neutral. I LOVE my nursery and am keeping it the same for #2 but my tastes have changed for DD. She wants a purple room so I am getting her white furniture this time. If I would have bought more expensive furniture I would be really stuck.

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to go with the Baby Italia set. I really love them both and can't decide if I like one more than the other. DH likes the Munire a little more but we don't think it is enough to spend $900 more on a set. Like you said, that money could go to so many other things. I am also concerned that the furniture will be ruined with a child and my taste changes over the years.
