What would you do? Rant!
We got married on 10/6/07 and still have not received our proofs from the photographer we used.
She supposedly lost a family member from cancer who lived with her (FIL?) so I will give her that........she told me at one point (when I called and the business # was disconnected) that she had closed the business down temporarily.
The last time I heard from her was the beginning of December when she said she was going to send me the proofs, which were also digital photos (another reason I don't understand the hold-u). I haven't heard from her since, and I left her 3 voicemails this week/weekend/today and sent her an email last night stating I was losing my patience.
I can't find the contract anywhere, but do have the paperwork I sent with the pics we wanted, and copies of the cancelled checks (we also paid up front for everything which is another reason this is pissing me off).
She came highly recommended and was great in person. What do you think I should do at this point?

I would leave her a strong message such as
I have been trying to reach you regarding my proofs. As you can imagine these are extremely important to my husband and I. I understand you have had some personal issues and I have been more than patient. I would like my proofs and disc sent to me by X date.
If she doesn't send them then send a certified letter stating that you will contact an attorney if she does not get them to you by X date

My husband just left her a message on her home phone stating that he expects a call back from her by tommorrow regarding the proofs. If he doesn't get it, no more nice-ness.
I like the certified letter idea. I was also thinking of having my sister call her with a fake last name pretending to get quotes for pics to see if she is still taking business but avoiding us because she hasn't finished the proofs.

I think this is a great idea. See what's going on.
After today's message, if you don't hear back, I'd contact 7 On Your Side or Shame On You or one of those shows. They are usually really good at getting to the bottom of things.

I think this is a great idea. See what's going on.

LOL. You totally sound like my friend from work. She's like, if it was her, she'd have called "Help me Howard" and turned on the tears about how her wedding day is now ruined.
I don't think I'm that dramatic, but I would probably ***** her out and then make sure she got a ton of negative publicity before I shed any tears.
I just am kinda nervous because I've heard nightmare stories where photographers are concerned.

I would be so far up her azz she wouldn't recognize me.
the longer you wait, the more your pictures are in jeopardy.
Get on it immediately. Visit her home if you have to. Send the letter..etc...all of the above.

i would do the same thing but i don't think i'd *visit* her home... no need to get the police involved.

just out of curiousity is this by any chance a LIW vendor? If so I wouldn't think twice about contacting LIW and explaining to them that you've been trying to contact so and so and haven't heard back from them and could THEY please contact her and have her contact you--- I would be mortified if I were in her shoes and would def. contact you immediately either way- BUT ESPECIALLY knowing that my business colleagues were getting involved.

Yeah, I can see that getting out of hand and creating an even bigger problem...........

She called me back today and told me she was out of state for several weeks during the holidays and was just catching up on everything now. She promised me she would mail me the proofs by this weekend so we shall see.
