What would you do? (Long)
We rent a house from a very nice old couple who live across the street from us. Their son is a giant mooch who lives off of them and is pizzed he can't live in this house. His parents were away for about 3 weeks nad he was supposed to cut our lawn (in our lease) and he didn't. We were also told not to leave messages on the LL home machine b/c he deletes them if they have anything to do with him (they always do!)
When his parents are away, he likes to park his giant trailer and truck facing the WRONG way in front of our house, we just deal with is (or sneak one of our cars out there first).
So, we were out all day last Saturday and he put a garbage can full of CRAP (construction supplies, etc, nothing in bags) in front of our house! The garbage guys didn't take it Monday night, so DH pulled it around to his trailer, now, today, it is back in front of my house
As per our lease we are responsible for things like tickets from the garbage men, so I think that is why he is leaving it here, so HE doesn't get the ticket.
DH is going to flip when he sees it. Should he go talk to the father? What should he say?
TIA

I would def. talk to the dad. I would also go talk to the son and mention that you and DH have an agreement with HIS parents and that he needs to respect your space.
Tell him that the trash can stay by HIS house and that if you incure any ticket, you will have to give it to him or his dad.

Yes, you should talk to the father and tell him his son is an a$$hold, which I am sure he already knows!

Re: What would you do? (Long)
absolutely talk to the dad! And moving forward, document everything.
The next time he does something like this (especially if it can incur a ticket) I suggest taking photos. Also keep a journal of sorts "on August 31, LL's son did...." Just so you have a record for yourself.
I realize it won't help if unfortunately a ticket does happen, but at the very least, it serves as evidence for your LL.
If there's anything I've learned over the last year, it's to cover your arse. If LL's son is going to put you in a position like the one you're in (again, especially the potential ticket thing), then I say you need to play hardball back.

Have him take pictures of all of the offending issues, and then bring that up to him..better to have proof.
