What would you do?
This is a scenario that my girlfriend is going through right now and is asking for opinions:
She was laid off from her job a few weeks ago. Her last day is next week. There is a possibility that they could ask her to stay another 2 months but no offer is on the table yet.
Would you stay and if you did, would you expect to be compensated or something extra done as for what she has been through (it was very devastating to her and the entire dept and she is trying to wrap things up with this job and looking for a new job at the same time)?

Re: What would you do?
When I was laid off, they offered me an extra severance to stay and transition everything to the new group that was taking over ours.
I had to stay and everything had to be transitioned in an orderly fashion in order to receive that extra bonus money

Re: What would you do?
I need to ask a couple of questions first...
Why is she being laid off? Is the company eliminating her position or is her position being filled by someone cheaper?
Why do they need her to stay on?
Is she getting severance pay? If so, how will staying on effect that?

Mass layoff of about 60 people. Everyone told their jobs were being eliminated.
They need her to stay on as they did not plan this properly and there is no one else to do the work that still needs to be done.
Yes, she will get severance pay.

I guess it would depend. My answer may not be best or the most professional and I'm not saying I would be right - im actually curious what others would do
But if that happened to me ... No, I wouldn't want to stay. I'd want my package and leave and then focus on my life and my next step. I wouldn't want to stick around and help. Companies tend to be able faceless entities, even if you love your work and your team.
If I did stay, yes. I would expect more something. Just not sure what.

Re: What would you do?
I would not stay. Wrap things up until the last day and then be done and on my way to something new.
But, my mind could change depending upon the compensation package and the understanding that time might have to be taken off to interview.
