What Would You Do?

What Would You Do?

So I'll start off by saying that DH and I disagree about what to do in this scenario but I want to be open minded and that's why I am writing this post...

DH and I had been talking about signing up DD who is almost 3.5 for some sort of soccer activity for this spring or summer... (classes, league etc) so a few weeks ago DH was supposed to look into it since this is going to be HIS activity with her as he was an avid soccer player in his day.. so he signed her up without ever looking at her schedule or discussing with me... turns out that the league he signed her up for has 7 sessions.. one session falls on her school recital day, one on her ballet recital day, one on a day where we had family plans , and the first one as it turns out is during her cousin - who is her bff's- bday party. So I mentioned all of this to DH when he signed her up but he blew me off.. Anyway-- hes talking about her first session now and I reminded him that she has the bday party and he thinks that she should just skip it or leave in the middle (after an hour or a two hour party) of it to make it to soccer. I know that the first session is important but I don't think its fair to ask DD to leave her bff's party in the middle of it to go to a soccer practice she has never been a part of and where she doesn't know anyone-- DH thinks I am trying to poo poo on "his activity"-- what would you do?

He's wrong. He should have checked like you told him to do before signing up. Men never listen. I wouldn't make her leave or miss the party.

He's wrong. Is there anyway you can get out of this soccer session and find another place that does it where the dates work better?

He was definitely wrong to sign up without checking the schedules. Can you call the soccer league and try to get her into another day/time that works for all of you?

Agree with all of the above. And it's reasons like this I am in charge of all our family plans (dr appts, activities, parties, etc.) men don't get it.Chat Icon

If it was just the bday party thing - I would probably say he wasn't that wrong. But it sounds like there are a bunch of other conflicts?? Are the other things at the same time or just the same day?

I agree with the other posters....is there another league you can switch her into that doesn't have all the conflicts? That is why I am in charge of everything like that when it comes to DD. If I left it up to DH, who knows what I would end up with...probably an activity on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 when we are both at work and she's at daycare! Chat Icon

Well that's kind of hard. I agree he should have checked but I find it impossible to really clear a schedule for any one activity. AJ has Girl Scouts and friends obviously. But we also committed to her sharing a plot every single Saturday morning at the botanical garden. I say share because the other kid's mom (a friend of mine) and I both agree it's impossible to see 3months out and every weekend brings new challenges. In our case, her son is in soccer and robotics. Her soccer schedule isn't really hard set and can and will move. So I pick up on weekends she can't get her son there and when I can't she makes sure her son is there.

Point is.. its really hard to commit to more than on activity.

There's always going to be conflict.

But when you CAN avoid conflict, he should have at least tried.

Thanks everyone! There is only one time slot for this league so there is no switching. Shed either have to cancel soccer for the spring all together or just go as often as she can and/or miss other events. I know DH was wrong to sign her up without checking, if he had checked in with me I would have just told him too many conflicts, don't sign her up this season. My real question was more along the lines of== what would you do? Let DD stay at the party the whole time, or have her leave in the middle to make it to soccer?

P.S. I never ever put DH In charge of any activities before this and now I know why!

Agree. It would also probably upset her and leave a bad taste in her mouth about soccer, like I had to leave where I was having fun for this?
