What Would You Do?

We got 2 estimates to get our house painted. One was from a recommendation, and the other was someone we called out of the Pennysaver. The Pennysaver guy is someone we had called for an estimate for wallpaper removal and skimcoating last summer when we bought the house, but then decided to resheetrock. His prices were right in line with everyone else, and he seemed very professional.

So, for the house painting, his prices were slightly lower, but he also included the front and side railings, plus our front lightpole, so we decided to go with him. I called and hired them, and they said we would hear from them in about 2 weeks for an exact date.

My parents are putting their house on the market, and wanted to get it painted also, so I gave them mr Pennysavers number and they set up an appt for an estimate. Well, he never showed. My mom called and left a message that night asking if they were still coming, with her number, and asked for a call back (this was Tuesday). Still no call back. He had no idea this was my mom.

Now, I am concerned about this. Dh says he has been nothing but professional with us, so not to even worry. I am not so sure.

What would you do?

I'd be ******.. If he is so professional, then why wouldn't he return your mother's call? Has he come to your house or have you heard from him? This is a referral that you are giving him. Word of mouth referrals are BIG in that type of industry, so I can't fathom why he wouldn't call her back?

In my opinion, call this guy and confirm your work with him asap. Did you give him money?

No, no $$ until the job is complete.

I want to call, but DH is telling me not to...

I was thinking of calling to confirm and telling them the person that they blew off was referral from me, and it was my mom. I don't think they even asked her how she got their number.

I would call him and explain that if this is how he treats referrals, then you do not want to continue to do business with him. I have my own business and would never treat someone this way.

As for the contractors not showing up I dealt with this while we had our home under renovation. It is frustrating and annoying. The bottom line is that if they have a good reputation (with the quality of their work) they call the shots. They come whenever they please and ignore any/all appointments. I have learned to expect nothing as far a phone call or respect for my time from contractors. Then, I am pleasantly surprised when one does call to say they will be late or if they show up at all. Sad but true. I spent so much time and energy getting pi$$ed at contractors when we had our renovation done that after the 5th time they were late and no call I just gave up.
