What would you do?
So at my old job, I had a secretary who was pretty good. My biggest issue with her, is she was late alot- and she called in sick on her last day of work
So at my new job, my (very inept) secretary just gave her notice. They asked me if I could recommend someone.
Now I liked my secretary a lot. We let her go because the office just couldn't afford to keep her. But this office has a lot more volume than my old office did.
Also, I had a real issue with the fact she called in sick on her last day, and well before she knew I would arrive- so she just left a message. This really left a bad taste in my mouth.
So should I recommend her for this job? Or at least have her interview? I am concerned that if she ends up being bad or unreliable, it will reflect poorly on me. What would you do?

Based on her unprofessional behavior that last day I wouldn't. Plus her habit of calling in sick has probably not gone away. She obviously didn't care about burning bridges and in my book, that would qualify as a burn!
ITA! It stinks because you said she was a good worker in general- but I find it very unprofessional when people act like that....

No way. Especially since you say that she left you a voice mail well before you would get to work. They tells me that she didn't care at all.

i would not recommend her. to me, it would not be worth risking my reputation on someone who did not act professionally in the past.

Re: What would you do?
I make it a policy never to "bring people in" to where I work. I would never want the responsibility on my head if that person was felt to be incompetent. If positions are open, they are advertised in local papers and on-line. I know many people in my field who are looking for work. They have applied to my workplace without me even knowing.

Re: What would you do?
I would call her and tell her about the open position....but also talk her about the way she left. Telling her this is a whole new place with new rules.
