What Would You Do?

We've been looking OOS for a house and we've noticed that there isn't much in the middle of our price range. Its either on the high end or the low end.

The low end houses all need to be remodeled. Nothing major, just updating everything. The houses we look at in this category are all between 2500-4000 sq feet and are very inexpensive (between 150-225k).

The new constructions are beautiful but we wouldn't be able to add on the extras like granite and wood flooring. The house would probably be 2000 sq feet.The plus side to this is we'd be in a great subdivision which has a community center, pools, etc.

They are all in the same top school district but DH and I can't agree. I want to remodel and be able to have the things I want and a much bigger house. He doesn't want to take on a job like that with 3 small kids.

Any advice?

To me three small kids will need a lot of space as they grow to be three big kids. If you're looking to stay put for awhile then I say remodel.

with 3 kids I would get the biggest house you can for the money

and I would want too add all the extras

those are the 2 main reasons we are moving OOS- big house and all the fun stuff!

I know my DH would say buy the older home and remodel - you get everything exactly as you want it and the homes were built better years ago (better construction, better materials, more solid). And I'd rather have more square footage.
