What would you do - all opinions pls
I have no clue if the doctor would even do this --- OR if I even would want this to happen - but, well, with all this time on my hands I think of a million different scenarios a day.
Should I just tell Dr. H that I want to schedule a c-section instead of inducing labor? I don't even know if this is something she would consider, or something I would even want, I just was wondering if I really want to go through an induction that could very well just end up in a csection anyway?
I'm curious to hear everyone's opinions on this.

Personally Diana, not sure if the dr. would do it...also there are insurance issues to consider (might not be covered if not medically necessary).
How long is your dr. planning on waiting to induce?

I don't know. I go back to see her tomorrow and I don't plan on walking out of there without an induction date. I want it no later then Wed. The nurse said she thinks that's when Dr. H would schedule it anyway - but I am really going to demand it (if possible )

Re: What would you do - all opinions pls
Diana you know this is the route I took - my baby was NOT dropping, and there was NO WAY her head would have fit through the birth canal.
Speak with Dr. H and see what she thinks. Consider - 40% of deliveries end up in a c/s. The odds increase greatly when you are induced. If she thinks you would wind up with an emergency c/s, I think I would just schedule it (as I did, despite wanting to go NATURAL) - because after all that labor, you will be exhausted and worn out - and then to have to deal with emergency surgery - a scheduled surgery is much safer.
If she thinks you will be able to deliver with induction, then I would just be induced. But if she doubts the induction will be successful, I'd schedule the c/s.
HTH!!

It does. Thank you!! Last time I met with her she said there is no way she would induce me with my cervix the way it is (basically closed tight) I am so paranoid with overdue babies that at this point now - I don't care how he gets out - I just want him out. My DH is a teacher so he will be around to help for the next few weeks if I need help. I don't even care about the recovery - just want this baby in my arms the safest way possible.

Re: What would you do - all opinions pls
The recovery is NOT THAT BAD AT ALL. And a late baby is FINE.
If you DO go the c/s route: 2 suggestions: 1. don't take the percoset (unless you KNOW you can tolerate it) and 2. take a stool softener when they put you on pain meds. And know that you will have to take it very easy and you will have the shakes for about an hour after surgery.

I am def. weary about taking percoset - I get nauseous if I take Aleve on an empty stomach so I was going to talk to them about all pain meds regardless.
Thanks for all your help. Hopefully I will have some answers tomorrow!

Re: What would you do - all opinions pls
I had to go through this same contemplations recently due to other reasons.
I'm ready to have this baby today, so I can't imagine what you're going through.
My personal opinion- why go through the induction when it can fail?? Also, I'm not a fan of the pitocin, it freaks me out. (Nothing against anyone who took it, it's just me). I would rather have a c/s.
My Dr. said that they would after 39 wks, it's just called an elective c/s. I would def. talk to my Dr. if I were you
Best of luck!!!

That's a really good question!! I would think insurance would be the biggest obstacle - like does the Dr. have to show they tried natural before resorting to a c-section (and all the bills that encompasses). Or can they just code you in the system for needing a c-section for some reason.

very true. they only cover what is medically necessary and while your dr. might be able to fudge things to make it look necessary, would you feel conifident in a dr. who would do that? my mom had an induction with my little sister...it was still a looong labor, but even with complications (cord around her neck), she still more than successfully delivered vaginally.

Re: What would you do - all opinions pls
even though I have been so sore since giving birth, I feel much better! almost a week after labor I feel somewhat like my old self again... I cant imagine recovering from c-section that fast... cant imagine not being able to do a lot of the things around the baby, it is a tough job even when you are 100%... so I say try an induction first, you never know you might really have a great experience...

Re: What would you do - all opinions pls
Ok...honestly I think she's gonna say No to this......BUT I would insist on knowing if the baby is low enough to make a induction likely to work. She is going to not give you a straight answer b/c well its hard to, but then if she hesitates I would jump on th c section route.
Now make sure you REALLY want a c section. I absolutly hated having one. I felt cheated of a natural birth, recovery the first 72 hours was awful. I couldnt change my baby and I was jealous of the mommies walking around in the nursery when I couldnt.
I cant say much about indution cause my labor was fairly short....But I know that some women swear an episiotomy is worse then a c section.....and induction hurts at first and you cant get an epi till 4cm's at least.
Now, if you decide to do it...My tips are... I dont like percoset either, but by the 2nd day I needed it SO bad. I have a low tolerance to pain meds as well and I was fine on them. I would suggest taking one and seeing if it works ok for you. They are short lived pills.
Take the motrin every 5-6 hours like clockwork, DO not miss it.
The first time you get out of bed, you will feel like crying or dying. It was so painful....But it gets easier, and easier each day.
Like Kara said the shakes are BAD. They hurt....but they pass. And I also got itchy from the anesthesia. I wanted to rip my skin off. Take the benydryl they offer ASAP so it stops if that happens.....
And for me, staying the full 5 days in the hospital was a blessing b/c I found it VERY hard to sit still once I got home and thats how I rippe dthe incision open.....
So thats the good, the bad and the ugly...
I would have loved to have been more prepared for my c/s...so just in case you are going that route, I hope that helps.
