How much work would it entail and how much money would it be?

For my DH, it took 2 years, a shovel, and a few spackle buckets! We had an unfinished room that needed to be dug out. Probably not what you're looking for but it was close to free!

We did this about 2 yrs ago; it cost less than 20K - we also replaced/reinforced the main beam of the house. This price did not include finishing the basement, we did that on our own. Pics in my album, we dug about 1.5 feet and for us it was totally worth it. FM with any questions. :)
