What went wrong?
Hi ladies,
I had my very first IUI on 5/19 and 5/20 and was in the tww. I'm 10 dp iui today and af came. We'll try one more time but this is our final time before IVF. This is the earliest af every came around. Usually she gets her around 12 or 13 dpo. Why so early? Is this a sign of something else that may be wrong with me? maybe a luteal phase defect? can this be a reaction to the injectibles? Is there any questions I should ask my RE when I see him on Friday? When is progestrone usually given and/or an HSG shot? I am really sad about this and bummed out. I was hoping this was it. I just want to make sure I don't skip any steps for round #2 so any help would be great. Thanks ladies.

Re: What went wrong?
Are you sure it's a full AF or not just implantation spotting? If you are going to an RE, they are supposed to check your progesterone one week after the IUI. That way if your numbers are low, they start you on the progesterone before it's too late. This is huge, so I would ask your RE about it. Also it would be a shot or suppositories, pills don't work with progesterone. If you have a luteal phase issue, the progesterone may solve it. As for the HCG shot, that is given 24-36 hours before the IUI to make you ovulate. They do this to time the IUI perfectly. (HSG is a test to check your felopian tubes)

Re: What went wrong?
I would call the RE office and speak to someone, might be implantation spotting, but call even if just to put your mind at rest

Re: What went wrong?
Thanks for the info. Unfort. it is def. AF.
I didn't get any progestrone shots or supps. My RE didn't mention if I needed it. I know the consent form indicated that some people may need them. Is it standard practice to give everyone prog.? Maybe he'll give it to me the 2nd time around. I will def. ask about it on my next visit.
I was typing so fast before I didn't notice I put HSG shot..lol...and I had an HSG done too!!! The HCG shot is what I took to O...okay..I thought it was something else to maintain a pregnancy. I have tons of questions for the RE on my next visit..which is soon since I am going to prepare for another IUI. Thank you...
Update: I called and I am going tomorrow.

Re: What went wrong?
No, progesterone isn't a standard medicine to give everyone. That's why they do the bloodtest one week after the IUI to see if you even need it. I have had 3 IUI's (in the midst of the 4th IUI cycle) and have never needed it, but they still test me each time just in case. I would ask your RE about it.
Make sure you get all your questions answered. That is what they are there for. Plus keep in mind that different RE's have different types of protocol that they follow, so if as you go along you aren't happy with their way of doing things, look into another office. GL.

I agree with this and you should definitely ask to have a blood workup done after ovulation. This way they can see if anything is lacking.
