What was your DD's first American Girl doll?
Looking to get one for my nieces 5th Birthday and I don't know if I should get the Historical doll (Caroline or Marie-Grace) or My American Girl doll that sort of looks like my niece.
Thanks!

My sil bought them bitty babies that looked like them. They were only one though and I just took them out at 2
For a five year old I would get her one that looks like her. I think that is more special to them.

My DDs first got Molly and her friend Emily...They are more into the historical ones at this point...they like the books that go with them.

I like the classic ones...my dd (5.5yrs) has Molly and Kit - I like it bec there are stories to go along with them and outfits that they can identify with in the movies, books, brochures, etc.
She also has an itty bitty baby...but doesn't really play with her as much!

Re: What was your DD's first American Girl doll?
DD has a bitty baby and marie-grace (because she was on a special sale for $50 once from the Today show). DD prefers her bitty baby but she is 3. I think she will like the bigger dolls as she gets older. We also have a Rebecca doll for her that she will get when she is older. I think it would depend upon the age of the child - age 4 and under I would get a bitty baby. Age 5 and older I would get an American girl doll. I think that it would depend upon the child whether to get the historical or a doll that looks like the child.

Re: What was your DD's first American Girl doll?
My girls just got their first American Girls this past Christmas at 7 and 5.5. The older one got Kit and the younger one got Molly. I insisted they get a historical one 'cuz that's how I roll.
I wouldn't even let them get McKenna because she wasn't historical enough.

I'm a lover of the classics....she started out with bitty baby and now has Rebecca....or as she calls her Becca.
