Re: What was the most thoughtful...
Handmade blankets, hats, etc. I got quite a few and it really warmed my heart to know that someone took the time to make my baby something!

Re: What was the most thoughtful...
a handmade quilt. As far as something not made and wasn't on my registry, my friend bought an ll bean bag with dd name embroidered and filled it with cute outfits. I use the bag all the time at the beach and to pack toys when I go to someones house.

my brother in law made a gorgeous toy chest for me..he worked on it for weeks. it was so beautiful and he painted it to match the nursery colors..white and taupe.
another great gift was my SIL bought us a ton of medicine for babies and wrote how to use each one. it was a life saver

Re: What was the most thoughtful...
I have 2
My sister made me a frame that says" I loved you the 1st time I saw you..." and has an opening for the u/s pic, and then says "But that was nothing compared to when I held you" and has on opening for a picture of me holding her
My brother bought a bunch of onsies and plain bibs and hand decorated ALL the holidays to include the opening of deer season with a screen print of Bambi on it, Paczki Day, Sweetest Day, and the night before Thanksgiving It was adorable and I laughed my azz off.

Re: What was the most thoughtful...
A friend, a cousin and DH's old school bus driver all hand made blankets for DC. It was beyond sweet.
Also, my Aunt gave a me a pic of my Grandma. I had never seen a pic of her that young before and even though we were not very close, it was like a piece of her was there that day and it meant the world to me.

Re: What was the most thoughtful...
I did not have a shower, but someone came over the house when DS was born with a laundry basket filled with baby items that she liked when her kids were small. She put everything from bottles to toys to outfits. It was packed and it took about an hour to empty. It was really thoughtful.
