What to expect at the ENT
Can any BTDT moms let me know what normally happens at the first visit to an ENT? We are taking DS (28 months) in a couple of weeks, and I'm not really sure what to expect. Other than just looking in his ears, what else will they do? A hearing test? If so, what does that entail? TIA!

What to expect at the ENT
pressure test and look in the ears..
They put what looks like an ear bud from a headset into her ear and it sends an echo through (she can't hear it) and gauges the pressure in her ears. Painless and quick. Usually those will tell us if she has blockage or fluid. Either will cause a loss in immediate hearing. Then we saw the doc tho took a look. In AJ's case I wanted tubes so badly. He sort of approached me with a cautious kind of 'we may need to think about tubes' and I shot him down because I had been thinking about it for so long. Plus I have had tubes myself so I wasn't scared or nervous I wanted them done so badly. We scheduled her procedure and got it done.
Best thing ever.
She's been going to an ENT since around 16m
Her last tube was removed (it fell out but stayed in the ear) just this last Dec. They were put in when she was 17m old. The last two times I took her we did a hearing test where she sits on my lap and they test her hearing. The first time she reacted to the sound by turning her head to the sound and was rewarded with a visual stimulus (a toy monkey or bear moving with cymbals and light). Now at 4 they do the same test but no visual reward, instead she has to lift her hand. She's still getting used to that.
AJ loves the chair. She goes to a pediatric ENT and the chair is standard size but lifts ALL the way up. First time she sat on my lap but from then on she goes by herself. It goes up, it lays totally flat. She calls it a magic chair. She has no issues with the doc looking in her ears, eyes, mouth and nose. She's a pro!

Are you going for ears or what?
I just took my 5.5 yr old Monday. She is on her 3rd round of antibiotics for a sinus infection and fluid in her ears which hasn't drained and been infected on and off. They looked in her nose, ears, put cotton in her nose so they could put a scope in. They also did a hearing test and checked the fluid in her ears.

Re: What to expect at the ENT
Sorry - yes, we are going for ears. He has had several ear infections (some doubles) over the past 6-8 months and he's still not talking so we want to get him checked out to see if there are any issues that could be affecting his progress with speech.
