What size infant carseat?
Which have you ultimately decided on? A smaller one so that child doesn't become too heavy to carry in it or a larger one that will last longer? If it matters, I'm looking at the graco snugride

Honestly, I kept DS in the Graco Snugride 35 until about a year. I stopped transfering it back and forth when he got heavier, but it was nice if he fell asleep I had the option to carry him into the house without waking him. Plus it fits nicer in the car, rear-facing. DS was always comfortable in it.

I agree with this, though we have the Chicco Keyfit 30. My son was in till 18 months. Just because you can carry an infant seat doesn't mean you have to. When it gets too heavy to carry, just use it as a carseat, not a carrier. Like PP said, it's always nice to have the option.

I got the small one.....i think only up to 20lbs. I knew I'd never be able to carry the baby in the car seat when they got much bigger.

I got the Graco KeyFit 30. It should last for the first year. Once Baby gets too big to carry in the carseat, I'll just transfer him out and leave the seat in the car.

I am getting the B-Safe, it weighs 10 lbs which is equivalent to the snugride 32.
It covers baby from 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches. Once she gets to heavy in it, I'll probably just stop taking the car seat out.

Also had the Graco 35. Carried my DD in it until I couldn't lift her anymore (around 9-10months). Then I left her carseat in the car in the base and just took her in and out. She was in there until 12months and the reason I took her out was because it was winter and her bulky sweaters and coats made her look uncomfortable. Otherwise, I would have kept her in there for a few more months!

I got the Graco 32 but I took my dd out 7month and 16 lbs, my back was killing me carrying her. I love the converstible carseat but I missed being able to carry her inside while she was sleeping without waking her.

Thank you girls! Seems like a lot of you opted to go big, get more use out of the seat, and use as a carseat instead of carrier when LO got too heavy. Sounds like a plan

I agree...with my first 2, I had the peg perego, and they were out of it by 5 months...my son is 8 1/2 months and still in his snugride...I love it...plus I can still use the snap and go!

We had to take DS out of the infant seat at 5 months, in the winter, which sucked but he hated that thing SO much so he screamed the entire car ride every where that we went. It made driving so difficult so we switched the Britax Marathon and he did so much better in it. I'm glad I didn't spend a lot of money on the bigger car seats because we didn't get much use out of them at all.

ITA. WE got the snugride 32 - I originally got it because we were team green and DH is 6'5" so I was not sure if we were going to have a long baby. Well DD is 17 months old and she is still in her snugride. I stopped lifting it in and out of the car when she was about 12 months so I now just lift her in and out but like a PP stated, if she falls asleep in the car, I love having the option of lifting the whole car seat out and not disturbing her sleep. I am switching her to a convertible car seat by the end of this month and I am going to really miss the graco.

I am glad to hear that other children have been in the infant car seat forever  Dd is 17 months and I will be switching her car seat at 18 months old but I thought we were the only people who kept her in the infant carseat even up to a year let alone past a year. I feel good hearing others have done the same

 I thought we were the only ones too! We never had a reason to switch because he was perfectly happy in it, nowhere near the height/weight limits, and it was so convenient! He's been out of it about 4 months and I still miss it!

SEriously, when I read your post I did a double take on the age you wrote and smiled so big DD is a peanut in the weight department but she is too big height wise and I am so upset to switch - I love her infant car seat.
