What should I do about fixing my e-ring and wedding band?
So last Sunday DH and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary . My e-ring has tiffany balls on the inside because the ring is top heavy and I needed ring guards so these are used so the ring doesn't spin. Well, at around 10 am on Sunday (our anniversary), DH and my friends DH were cutting off my wedding band and e-ring because I ring finger swelled so badly the night before. Nothing worked to get it off. You couldn't spin it because of the balls inside. My finger was double the size and was deep red boarding purple.
So now I left with 2 cut bands that need to fixed. I told DH that I went to a place and I feel comfortable there. They are a small jewelry store and are always so pleasant and helpful when I go in. The jeweler is only there on Thursdays and when I told DH about it, he mentioned something about me staying there . I told him there was no way I was waiting for probably 1-2 hours to have my rings fixed while I stood and watched with 2 toddlers to make sure my diamond isn't switched.
So how do I go about fixing it? The only option I though of was having the diamond taken out, given to me then they can put it back in when they fix it. My only concern with that is, that the prong my get week. There is a jewerly store that sells high end items that DH would feel better leaving my stuff at but I can't stand them. I actually went in the week before and asked the guy working there if he could take the balls out for me because I did notice it was getting a little harder to take off, but it wasn't an issue. His response "come back at 1pm when the jeweler is in and situated and he could do it for you. I would do but I don't want my hands to get dirty." Now, if he was the only sales associate in the store I would have understood but he wasn't.
I am in Central NJ (in the manalapan area) if anyone knows of any reputable jewelers.

Re: What should I do about fixing my e-ring and wedding band?
we have a family jeweler, been going to her for over 20 years now and whenever i need work done to my ring she has me or FH sit there and watch the person do the repair.
(she has a booth in a jewelry center so they all share the repair people like the setters, casters.. etc.)
no matter how well you know them or trust them i would never leave my diamond with a jeweler.
if you dont want to wait there i would suggest them taking the stone out and giving it to you while they fix the band and then reset it.

Where did he buy the diamond ? I would leave my diamond only with the woman we bought it from.. I actually did that when I had a basket put on it .. I really do trust her .. Can you go to the place you bought it from?

I am actually looking for a jeweler to repair something as well. If you find a place, please let me know. A for leaving things I am not comfortable doing that. I would want someplace open either on the weekend or that has late hours. We are also in central NJ.

I would never leave my diamond with someone. I would have them remove it and give it to you if you did not want to wait

Could you have a family member wait there? I would never leave the ring.

I agree with the other ladies, I wouldn't leave my stone with someone I don't know. You never know...
Can you have someone watch the kids while you go?

Do NOT leave your diamond there. My prong broke on my ring. I had to wait there for them to do it. It was a PIA and thank god my mothers cousin works at the booth bc she watched Tyler while I was in the back with them.
Now, it just broke again (three weeks later) and I'm dreading going back, and have to do it when I can find coverage for the two boys.
I would find another place and go on a weekend when DH is around!

I would think you CAN leave your diamond with them, I have done it
ask to see the id on the diamond under a loop or microscope, write down the number and then compare it again when you pick the ring up.

Thanks everyone.
I think I am going to have the diamond taken out, and then have them fix it.

Not many stones have that.

Nope. Here is a interesting article about the inscription. Obviously not an experts advice, but still interesting.
So it comes down to know your stone. Know the blemishes, know the details. Don't leave it with strangers.
