What paperwork to save?
What types of paperwork should we be saving in preparation for buying a house? I was told pay stubs, bank account information, etc. - what exactly and how far back? (I'm getting nervous b/c I usually throw a lot of that paperwork out. ) TIA!

Re: What paperwork to save?
If you are renting and a 1st time homebuyer you could use cancelled rent checks

yes, this is what you'll need. Also keep your last 2 years w2's. Also, when you have your commitment letter, keep track of when your "credit" expires. That is when you'll have to provide updated docs to the mtg company. And make sure you go through the conditions that the bank assigns you and keep up on the loan officer to make sure the process is moving along.
FM me if you want any additional info.
Good luck

yes, we learned this last minute, and had to go to our bank for copies, it took them FOREVER to get it to us!

Re: What paperwork to save?
Thank you everyone! 2 questions: Where do I get our W2s (dumb question?) and what if we don't pay rent by check? Thanks again!

Thanks you too- it was fun at first, now we're like we just want to find something!! And now with the winter and all, there's a limited # of houses on the market right now. Oh well - eventually I'm sure! Good luck to you too, Happy House Hunting!

Re: What paperwork to save?
If you don't pay your rent by check...START! I worked for a wholsale bank(selling to mortgage brokers) and this was required for 1st time homebuyers.
