Well I think as far as simply just painting it, then no. But I would not decorate or furnish the room. It may be silly but I would worry about "jinxing" it....

When we moved into our new house, I painted our spare room/office a neutral buttercream yellow color knowing it would be the babies room someday hopefully. DH is delighted he doesn't have to repaint it now :)

I dont think its bad luck but I would want to wait because I'd want to paint it in a gender-appropriate color.

Paint is just paint but to paint it with the colors and look you want for your nursery when the day comes - IMO, yes bad luck. That's just me though, I'm very superstitious when it comes to doing stuff before the baby is born.
