 Re: Locks of Love
I am going to do the same. I think you have to donate 10 inches of hair. I am going to let mine grow for another 6 months and then do the mom chop.

Here is their website Locks of Love it will give the list of salons that participate.

ETA - It is under the donate/volunteer tab.

 Re: Locks of Love
I just went to my regular stylist. She put my hair in a ponytail, cut if off and then cut, shaped and styled it as if I just went in for a cut. I downloaded a form from the LOL website and mailed the hair in a padded envelope.

I get this msg. when I click on the tab...

Beginning January 2006 the Salon Page will no longer be accessible on this site. Any salon wishing to become a registered Locks of Love participant may contact the office to receive a window decal for your location. Displaying this decal will represent that a salon provides free cuts and styles to anyone donating 10 inches or more of hair to Locks of Love.
We appreciate participation and hope this better serves the salons.

I could cut 10" and my hair will still be passed my shoulders....

The hair cut is free when you donate right?

 Re: Locks of Love
They took the list of participating salons down I don't know why they would do that. Try emailing them, or going to your regular stylist as Dpli suggested. I have a friend (male) who donate 20 inches of hair twice and his girlfriend cut it, so it is possible to do it on your own.

I believe if the salon is a participating salon it is free.

That's what the deal was when I did it a year ago, if you went to a participating salon. My salon is not a participating salon, so I just paid for a regular haircut - I didn't really want to go to Ulta, even if the cut was free.

 Re: Locks of Love
My daughter did this about 1 1/2 years ago through Ulta Salons and the haircut was free. What a great gift to give.

 Re: Locks of Love
I know Harvey Allen in Islip participates at certain times of the year (during their Main Street Festival), but you could call.
I think I would go to my regular place and pay before chancing getting a bad haircut. A bad haircut with short hair is much harder to fix than with long hair.

This is where I went. There were a whole bunch of people donating there at one time. Unfortunately, I ended up with a bad cut
