 Bathroom Question
We are buying a Levitt cape with one bathroom. I was wondering how much it would cost to put a half bathroom in a closet upstairs, Nothing Major...Just a Sink, and a small mirror, no vanity, and a toilet bowl. We will paint the walls, and vinyl tile the floor, or put down regular tile.
I know it is going to be a pain in the neck getting up in the middle of the night to go down stairs to go to the bathroom if need be. And it is always good to have a second bathroom in the house.
I don't know how hard it would be to run the pipes, from the other bathroom, or how expensive that would cost.
If anyone has done this or if anyone knows someone that has done this, please reply here. thanks, Scott

 Re: Bathroom Question
It depends on where the pipes are in the other bathroom or kitchen, in order to get water pipes in.
If Im not mistaken levit houses have the kitchen right below the stairwell upstairs. i think you can add one relatively cheap

 Re: Bathroom Question
The kitchen is in the front, the bathroom is behind the kitchen, and the upstairs closet is to the left of the bathroom but upstairs Scott

 Re: Bathroom Question
THEY ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER RIGHT, EVEN THOUGH ON SEPERATE FLOORS. ITS OK. THEY CAN BREAK THRU AND RUN PIPES.
LOTS OF LEVITT HOUSES HAVE THAT...

 Re: Bathroom Question
GET A PLUMBER IN FOR A QUOTE. I CANT IMAGINE MUCH.
BATHROOM SINK YOU CAN GET AT HOME DEPOT FOR LIKE A 100 BUCKS AND TOLIET LIKE 200.
SHOULDNT COST MORE THAN 3000K FOR COMPLETE JOB.

I think thats a very low estimate personally. My guess would be at least 5k. Maybe more if piping needs to be run.

 Re: Bathroom Question
5 K TO TURN A CLOSET INTO A BATHROOM. NO SHOWER, JUST SINK AND TOLIET
NO WAY ID BE VERY SURPRISED.
PIPING DOESNT NEED TO BE RUN ENTIRE LENGTH OF HOUSE.
WE ARE PUTTING A FULL BATHROOM IN OUR BASEMENT AND IT MAY COST AROUND 3K

THE FIXTURES IS WHAT COSTS YOU THE MOST IN THE END...

 Re: Bathroom Question
For a bathroom in the basement, depending on the house you may need a pump to get out the waste. We built our house with a low-line septic tank and ran wasting piping in our basement for a bathroom down the road - should we decide to finish off potions of the basement.

 Re: Bathroom Question
Running new pipes gets expensive.
I had 2 quotes on putting a shower stall in our half bath (also our laundry room) right next to the washing machine and both were close to $10k. That was to extend the water and waste pipes, take down 1 wall and put a new one to make the room slightly larger, new sheetrock (taped and spackled), new toilet, new sink with vanity and tile the floor.

 Re: Bathroom Question
Is the closet big enough as it is?
Are the pipes in the floor?
The plumbing is the biggest variable here. Best case scenario less than $2K.
My FIL is a kitchen and bath contractor and he said our half bath in the new house would run us $1K and that's with a granite top and tiled floor.

He doesn't do the labor... he does the design, ordering, coordination, he's the owner/president of the company He has employees that do the labor.
And no, in case you are all wondering, I'm not getting my renovations for free... I can only dream.
I'll see him tomorrow if you want me to ask him.
