What kind of area rug in kitchen?

What kind of area rug in kitchen?
I have a 10 x 10 square kitchen with all the cabinets and appliances against the wall. I also have the back door to the outside in here.
Do I get just a mat to put in front of the door or should I get a small little something in the middle or both. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would just get a small mat. I think an area rug could potentially be unsanitary after awhile and may be a pain to clean.

I'd put a mat outside the door, and one in front of the sink.
