What island in Hawaii?
I know nothing about Hawaii but there are a lot of Hawaii options.
Which island should I be looking at if we're traveling with two kids.
Is there any time of year that is better/worse for Hawaii?

With kids, I would stay away from Kauai or Lanai.
Maui is my favorite island.
However, there is TONS to do on Oahu. Especially with the new Disney resort that is opening up, I would think that would be great to do with kids.

The Big Island if they want to see a volcano, but the beaches are all lava.
Maui if you want a variety of things.
I would suggest splitting the trip if you can. It only takes a 30-1 hr flight to each island.

I've never been- but my brother and SIL live on Oahu. They have always told me that there is a ton of stuff to do with kids there!

I agree with this - I think Oahu is the most kid friendly. Maui has something for everyone and it is my favorite place, but I think if I went there as a kid, I would be a little bit bored. A lot of the stuff to do there (zipline, horseback riding, 4 wheeling, biking down Haleakala, parasailing, etc. have age restrictions).

DH is from Hawaii and his family is still there. I haven't been with DS yet (he's 1) but I would say Oahu is perfect for kids. There are so many great child friendly beaches with excellent tide pools to play in. Hawaii is always rated one of the best child friendly vacations. The Hilton Hawaiian Village (Oahu) is a great child friendly hotel. It isn't on the main strip of Waikiki Beach but there are many means of transportation done to that part of the strip.

I haven't heard much about the Disney Hotel in Oahu but I know its located on the West side of the island. There isn't much to do on the west side and it also isn't the greatest place for tourists to venture out. If you decide to stay there you will probably be best to stay on the resort grounds or drive to the Waikiki area or the North Shore.

I would recommend that no matter what island you choose, you should rent a car. Most travel agents and other people will say not to rent a car in Oahu because public transportation is very easy. It is, but DH and I like to go on our own schedule and explore the island. We've always rented a car and it's always been worth it.
