Re: what is the strep test?
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is a test that they look to see if you carry a certain strain of the strep virus.
They apparently do a culture (swab the areas) of both areas down below (if you know what I mean). If you have the strep virus, you have to take antibiotics at some point (possibly during labor) so that it does not get passed to the baby.
Not sure if I am 100% correct, but I think this is what it is.

Re: what is the strep test?
Yup, its a painless test. A very high percentage of moms are positive. If you are when your water breaks you'd have to go straight to the hospital even if your contractions haven't started so they can put you on the antibiotics IV. If you water doesn't break they hook you up to the IV when you are in active labor.

Re: what is the strep test?
Beta-Strep is a bacteria that exists normally in the vagina of approximately 20% of women. (The bacteria is not always present in these women.) Although it rarelycauses problems, it can cause infections in certain circumstances. It can cause premature delivery, premature rupture of membrane, and chorio-amnionitis. Chorio-amnionitis is an infection of the amniotic fluid and membranes around the baby in the uterus. This infection can spread to the baby.
