What is the cheapest place to purchase a laptop from?

I just got a new Dell Vostro 1510
It was $529 with everything
I also got a matte screen, my old laptop had a glossy screen and its is the absolute worst, there was always a glare and i couldnt really use it when it was sunny

dell.com has a scratch and dent section online, most of it, is stuff people ordered and returned either because of a scratch or they changed their mind. We got a great laptop for cheap, all because it had a tiny scratch on the battery. It was around $400, and it would have cost us over $900 if we built it on their site ourselves, and it comes with the same warranty

For a nice brand - I would say Costco.
We are in the market for one right now for Kenneth because he is starting a program to help his speech that needs him to work on a computer in order to do it... Costco had HP's for a great price - it was cheaper than other stores I shopped around in.
ETA: I don't have a membership and didn't think to even look there when I bought my HP back in August... So, I shopped Best Buy, PC Richard, etc. and the best price was PC Richard & Son... they even offered to meet and beat any price I saw at Best Buy that was cheaper. They gave me a BIG discount on a great extended warranty, a carrying case, a screen cleaner, etc. I was happy - love the pute!

well, what will you use the laptop for? simply surfing the internet and writing word/excel documents? in that case, virtually any laptop will do and you don't really have to worry about specifications...
If you intend to watch movies, play games, or use photoshop, you really need a good graphics card and a decent processor. If you intend to store a ton of pictures / movies on it, you will also need a larger harddive.
Hate to say it, but IMO, computers and diamonds are similar.... there is no great buy (with the exception of the scratch and dent situation described above). You always get what you pay for...
Generally, computers purchased in stores will have pre-bundled features... so you're usually paying for something you don't need. I would go online to the company website you prefer (my favorite is vaio becuase I find they are more durable than HP or gateways) and custom configure a computer... If you can afford it, it's more cost-effective to spend a bit more right now (better processor and graphics card and a larger HD) and not replace it for several years. Definitely try a scratch and dent offer, though. if you can find close to exactly what you need through one of those situations, you might save a couple hundred...

I also wanted to remind you that computers don't come with Microsoft Office pre-loaded (only a trial) so keep in mind that you will have to pay the $100 to get this (which is good for 3 PC's).

I was going to reccomend Costco also.
