What is standard real estate agent commission?
I don't have an agent right now (I am looking to buy a house), but I was wondering how much commission real estate agents usually get.
TIA

Do you mean a buyers agent? Ours was 2% I think.

Re: What is standard real estate agent commission?
If you are buying, you don't pay the commission. It comes out of the price of the house (ie, the sellers' profit). A RE Agent is always free for the buyer to use.
There is a fixed % of the house that the agents will get for commission. 4% is pretty standard, and the MLS will specify how it's split. It's on the more detailed MLS listing that agents can see and you can't.

Ours was 2% for the buyers agent. The commission for the seller's agent came from the sellers.

Re: What is standard real estate agent commission?
I didn't think as the buyer that you paid commission. I thought it all comes out of the seller, thats why there is no disadvantage to using an agent as a buyer.
Should it end up buyers agent & sellers agent, they each get 2%. If the listing agent sells it to their own customer (who has no agent) they get all 4%.

this isnt always the case. it all depends on what the listing agreement reads. if the commission total is 4% it doesnt always mean the selling agent will get 2%. sometimes the offering is only 1-1.5%. its not always split evenly down the middle.

Re: What is standard real estate agent commission?
It's not always split evenly- but that is rare to see on mlsli
But average is 2%/2%
Rarely 3%/3%
I have seen some 1.5% lately
And HUD foreclosures pay 5% to who ever sells them- only 1 agent involved
