I have a splanch.
Walk in the front door into an entry hall. 1/2 bath to the right, coat closet, door the 1/2 basement. Stairs to go up.
In front of you in my dining room, to the left is my kitchen. Behind the kitchen (to the side of the dining roon) is my den.
If you are in the entry hall, go up 5 steps to the formal living room. Go up another 8 steps to 3 bedrooms and a full bath.
It's the fomal living room on a separate floor that makes it a splanch.

I have a splanch too! Its basically a colonial with a room in the middle level.
When you walk into my house there are around 4 steps to go up on the right to the "formal living room" which we use as a double den.
on the left is my dining room, behind it is the kitchen (opened up into each other) theres a half bath in between the kitchen and then theres the den. The den opens out with a sliding door to the patio.
All my bedrooms are upstairs along with 2 full baths.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the layout of my house!

exactly..I'm obsessed with this style and one of the only styles we're looking at...
