What gives?? Night waking
My 5.5m old has been waking up 1.5-2 hours after I put him down for bed. He sleeps in his crib, with a swaddle me, but arms out. He's had his arms out for several weeks now and wasn't waking up like this in the beginning, so I feel like it isn't related to that. He doesn't STTN yet, but he used to sleep at least 4 hours before waking for the first time. Sometimes when he wakes so soon after bedtime, it takes forever to get him back down. I don't nurse him. Just pick him up and rock him. I wish I could let him CIO, but his older brother is in the next room and I'm afraid of him waking up.
What is the deal here?? Why is he waking up so soon after going to bed?? It's like he thinks it's a nap. Once I get him back down, he'll sleep for another 3 hours or so, then wake again and I usually nurse him back to sleep at that point. Then he's up at least one more time (or more) before morning, and I try not to nurse again unless absolutely nothing else works.
I am utterly sleep deprived. I wake up with such heavy eyes, it's like I didn't sleep at all. It's killing me!! My only saving grace is that I haven't gone back to work yet... although I do stay home w a baby and a 4-year-old so I'm not exactly relaxing.
What can I do? Anyone have luck doing CIO with other children in the house? Any guesses as to the early waking? I am just at a complete loss. My older son was a dream compared to this... such a great sleeper. DH and I knew we were in for it!! Help!

He might be teething. My dd was never a good sleeper, but it got worse whenever she had a tooth coming in. She got her first tooth at 5 months. I don't remember if I used to give her baby Tylenol or Advil at that young age, but if you feel comfortable and if your dr ok's it, that might help. Try feeling along your baby's gums to see if you feel any swelling or teeth under the gums.
Or he could be hungry. Has he started eating baby food yet? I used to give dd a little puréed banana or something like that before her last nursing session, and I also would supplement with a little formula to try to get her to sleep better.
Good luck!

DS was like that from 3 months-6 months. I was averaging 4-4.5 hours of broken sleep a night. We introduced solids and did CIO at about 6 months and he's been more or less STTN since then. He's almost 8 months now. I might try to give him solids if you haven't already done so. If that fails, I'd probably try Cio

Teething? We've been dealing with that kind of sleep from 4 months until now 7months and she got her 2 bottom teeth and now 4 on top are coming down at once! Or else I would have done CIO.

Probably should have mentioned he's had two teeth since 4 months! I figured teething was part of it, but it's been almost 2 months since those first teeth came in, can he still be teething this badly??
The strange part is that he didn't do this when he first got the teeth. The frequent waking didn't start until a few weeks later.
It's really crazy how different each kid is... My older son was such a better sleeper and never did any of this!

Sounds like a 4 moth sleep regression. MY DD did that at 4 months 6 moths 9 months and 1 year. It lasted about a week and then she went back to her normal habits. I would just stick with your routine and wait it out.
