What does the AFP check for again?
Just wondering if I need to get it done? Is it just for Downs?

It's another screening for downs and trisonomy 18, etc.
My doc told me he wanted me to do it-- so, I just took his advice.

It's also for Spina Bifida- I had a CVS done early on so I know there is no chance of downs but the baby could have other defects. I did the blood test last week.

AFP screens for spina bifida and down syndrome. If you get a triple/quad screen, they test for more.

you know, come to think of it-- I never got my results for spina bifida specifically.
The only results I got for both the NT (12 week) and the AFP were the ratios for Downs and Trisonomy 18 and "other defects". Does that include SB?
