What does it mean...Update
Update - blood work showed her LH isn't rising, so I guess that means no ovulation.
She has an appt for LI IVF soon, but curious what will the next steps be?
She is starting acupuncture this week, is there any other supplement that can help with this?
Asking for a friend...
When you use ovulation sticks for several months without ever getting a reading, but consistantly get your period.
Since this was not my problem I am not sure, but is it a sign of pcos? You can take a med to make you O right? Is that Metaformin?
Also for this sort of issue and "where to start" do you think LI IVF is a good place?
I went there for one IUI and thought they were very professional with great hours, but at that point I had ALL Dr. B testing done.
And finally I am pretty sure this will mostly be OOP for her, so is it better to start with her gyno for testing?
Thanks!

Re: What does it mean...
could be PCOS, not necessarily.
metformin doesnt make you Ol. it can help if the issue is PCOS and it can make changes to insulin tolerance that result in altering you cycle, but its not primarily meant for ovulation induction. thats where clomid, femara and injectable meds come in.
i wouldnt bother with an ob/gyn unless she has some coverage from them. if theres no coverage either way, def see an RE.

Re: What does it mean...
If she's not getting +OPKs it could mean she's not ovulating. It could also mean other things.
Just over a year ago the same thing happened to me. I started with my gyn who did my bloodwork, an u/s and then gave us the rx for DH's SA. It was after we learned that we're dealing with MFI that we moved onto a urologist and an RE. But starting with your gyn can be less expensive since it's just bloodwork initially. My gyn sent all my test results over to the RE so I didn't have to have all my initial testing redone.

Re: What does it mean...
Thanks everyone, she hasn't been trying that long, maybe only since January, but she has a bad feeling and after a few months of opk with not even a hint of a second line she has made an appt at li ivf.

Re: What does it mean...
i would tell her to go to a RE. i never ever got a positive on any of the OPK strips and I have PCOS. once i started seeing my RE he let m eknow that using the OPK's are not reilable with people who suffer from PCOS. He put me on Clomid to start and here i am a few months later...

Re: What does it mean...
Does that mean if you have pcos and the tests don't work that you COULD still be ovulating?
Does temping work even if the opk do not?

Re: What does it mean...
Those stupid OPK's never worked right for me. She can do bloodwork with her Gyno and do a sonogram (though Gyno's are less likely to use their sono machine for some reason). Without having to go to an RE.
In fact I was doing something different with my RE (co-culture at Cornell) and you had to monitor your LH surge (right before ovulation) to get on the tight schedule. So, I was scared I would miss it since they never work for me. I used 3 different brands and only one told me my LH was elevated. I went for b/w to confirm and I was about to ovulate. I wish I could remember what brand was correct and which wasn't. Actually if I had the time, I'm sure I posted it on here. Probably 3 or 4 years ago.
She should definitely try taking her morning temp. It will rise after you ovulate. I would think if you didn't ovulate your temp would not rise. I think. I mean why would it.
Is AF normal for her, is it light/heavy? Painful?
Though if she is over 35, she might just want to head to the RE, since its been 7 months.

could she yea,i mean if she did not do the opk right, like did not hold her pee or just missed the right time of day to test
i would think it would be rare bc she has been doing it for months but if she wants toknow for sure def temp

Re: What does it mean...
Thanks guys!!!
She isn't even 30 years old and her AF is about every 35 days and heavy and painful (bad cramps) but also bad pms the week leading to AF as well.
I am glad she is being so pro-active, and also glad I can help her a bit.
