What do you think is more damaging for hair?
Wearing it up all day in an elastic or blow drying every day?

I think it depends on how tight you pull it in a rubberband and how tight you tie that rubberband.
I also think it depends on whether you tug and pull as you blow dry.
Personally I tie it tight and tug and pull when blow drying, so I'm screwed either way

It also depends if you use a heat protector spray and how hot you keep the blow dryer, how close you keep it to your hair, etc.

I would say heat damage from the dryer as long as you are using no pull elastics on your hair.
