if someone goes to touch your dog and you don't want them to? i just wouldn't know what to say without sounding rude.

Re: what do you say
I don't generally have that problem. Misty is pretty big (60 pounds) so most people ask if it's okay to pet her.
But, she is ambivilant about attention so the petting last for about two seconds before she wants to move on so I really have no worries.

Re: what do you say
Usually people ask me if Brody is friendly before they go near him because he is so big and can look mean, even though he is gentle as a bunny. I never really had someone just go touch him, but I can't say it would bother me if it happened. People should know better than to just walk up to a dog without knowing if it is friendly. I always ask when I see a dog I wanna pet, which is usually every dog I see!

Re: what do you say
I have three large dogs, so people will usually ask before they pet them.

its so funny i used to have a pit bull that people would walk far away from but he loved to be pet and was very gentle
meanwhile my jack russell is small and i think cute and people always try to pet him especially kids and i always have to say don't pet him cause he def barks loud and i wouldn't want to take the chance that he would bite he's a little nasty

Re: what do you say
I've never had this problem.
Most people ask, or if I see them eyeing him up, I'll ask them if they want to pet him.
I don't really mind anyone petting Arnold, as long as they're not causing him any harm I'm fine with it.
ETA: I did have a dog that was not friendly to strangers. She was big - an Alaskan Malumute. If someone approached us, I would just say in a friendly tone, please, don't pet Tisha, she doesn't do well with strangers.
But again, she was a big dog so people always asked first, to which I would reply "no, she's not good with people she doesn't know very well". I didn't say it in a mean tone, just a "please be careful tone".
If they didn't listen, we'd walk away immediately.

Re: what do you say
The only pet I have this issue with Is Bruno, b/c he will nip if he does not know the person. I very calmly tell the person that he may bite & that usually turns them off right away. When I take him out I keep him in his carrier anyway, so most people cannot pet him unless they open his carrier.
