Re: What do you do with the candy?

After my kids were done TT I took out all of the Laffy taffy and Now and Later-type stuff and put it back in the bowl of candy we were giving out! I will leave their pumpkins full of candy out for a few days, maybe let them have one treat the next few days after dinner. In the past, I just sort of phase it out, start hiding the pumpkin or put the candy in zip locks and put it on top of the fridge (and even throw some more out). Out of sight out of mind! The other thing is I have to get rid of anything I might be tempted to eat, I've been eating Halloween candy for a month now LOL.

Re: What do you do with the candy?

Some dentists are part of The Halloween Candy Buy Back program which sends Halloween candy to the troops overseas. I think they pay 1.00 per pound for the candy. This is what I am doing with most of the candy this year. I'm keeping very little of it.

Re: What do you do with the candy?

That Buy Back program is a FANTASTIC idea!

I think we may do that next year!

We let them kind of go nutty on Halloween. They must have gorged themselves on at least 10 pieces of candy.

Now that it's done - they will be permitted 1 or 2 pieces every other day as a treat in lieu of dessert. We also weed out some of the candy and we'll take some to work or put it in a bowl to share with guests.

The Halloween Candy Buy Back Program

DD's Daisy troop is collecting it to send to Operation Gratitude as well, but we don't do the buy back part.

The buy back program sends the candy to Operation Gratitude but you can just send it to them yourself. I think I may do that. They give the address of where to send it on their website. You can also send beanie babies, webkinz, and some other things, too.

Operation Gratitude

I think that's so great that your DD's troop is doing this!

I would think that probably food pantries/homeless shelters (INN in Hempstead) would accept it too to offer to the guests there as a treat.

My daughter's girl scout troop is donating it to the local food pantry - last year they were very excited to get it!

Re: What do you do with the candy?

I put some aside for DS to have for the week. He doesn't eat much candy so I give him maybe 1 or 2 pieces total for the week.

The rest we put into goody bags for his birthday party in 2 weeks.

I am donating it (either to Operation Gratitude or a local organization that send it to the troops).

Re: What do you do with the candy?

Glad to see I'm not the only parent who is trying to get their kid to eat as little as possible!
