What do you do with shoes your DC have outgrown?
I've accumulated quite a collection over the last two years and I want to get rid of them. I've been told that they should not be passed down to other children, so what do you do with them? Throw them out?

Wait, why can't shoes be passed down. DS 2 is wearing a pair of his older brother's. They're in great shape.

if they're in good shape, why can't you pass them along?

i've heard that as well - if they are worn, they can "mold" to a child's arch or shape of foot which can impact development of another childs foot.
If they are lightly worn, no problems

I've also been told that they shouldn't be passed down bc each child's foot molds into the shoe differently.
However, I know there are parents out there that can't afford new shoes, so I donate my kids' good condition shoes so that someone else's child won't go without shoes on their feet when they need them.

My ped told me not to pass them down or to have my DS wear shoes that have been passed down. I guess it affects how they walk and how their feet develop.
He's at that age where he outgrows shoes within 3 months or so, so all of his shoes are in pretty good condition! I thought about donating them... maybe I'll do that! I can't bring myself to throw them out so I have a huge bag in a closet.

Children's shoes shouldn't be reused. I get rid of them unless older ds only wore them once or twice for the holidays

Re: What do you do with shoes your DC have outgrown?
Shoes that have been barely worn I have passed on but shoes that are really worn get thrown out. I purchased winter boots that were worn once, and gave them to a friend. My DD got a brand new pair of Ugg boots from my friend. Her daughter's grandma bought her the boots. She wore them for 30 minutes in the car ride home. Went to put them on again and they no longer fit her DD. Of course they threw away the box and could not return them so my DD was the lucky recipient of them. I was perfectly fine with letting her wear them.

I throw them out. DS#2 gets mostly hand me downs but not shoes.
If they are in good shape, you could donate them.

I toss them. She wears them out so bad and they look all stretched out and laking in support. Not to mention dirty etc I wouldn't give those to anyone.
