What do you do with all the Candy/Cookies/Popcorn???

We still have a basket full of Halloween candy, and now we've added the Christmas candy. I also have stacks of cookies, caramel popcorn, and other junk that's come into my house somehow. What the heck do you do with all the candy and crap? My kids can't eat this all (and I don't want them to). We've been doing two (2) pieces of candy almost every night since Halloween, and there is a barely a dent in it. Do I just throw it out? It feels so wasteful, but I don't know what else to do at this point. Does anyone have a strategy to avoid this build up in the future?

We use Halloween candy to decorate the gingerbread house. Then, we throw it out. Some of it does get eaten. Others brought to the office. I bake cookies with the kids, and use some of the holiday candy as decorative elements in the cookies. Again, some are eaten and others are thrown out. And most of the holloween candy sits in a bag and gets thrown out by next Halloween when they need to use the bag again. I put it away and they forget about it. Then I throw it out.

We eat it. Or, if it's truly too much, I bring it to the office.

We started to donate it. We eat for 3-4 days and then donate all the rest to organizations that use it for snacks. School accepts donations as well as the dental offices. Popcorn stays as school snacks.

If you are your husband work in an office, bring it there. Everyone at my job brings cookies, candy , leftover cakes and assorted crap all the time and it it's gone in 2 minutes. Otherwise, if that's not an option, keep a few favorites and toss the rest!

Sounds like I just need to toss it. I did look into donating the Halloween candy, and then I got lazy and never did it. Next year, I need to research it ahead of time.

My office has it's own pile of cookies/candy/nuts/popcorn that isn't being eaten. A lot of the stuff came from my husband's office, so he can't really take it back there. I tried to take to to holiday parties, but I seemed to end up coming home with more stuff. We've eaten plenty of it, but I really think it's regenerating, because there never seems to be less of it.

That’s a good idea! Decorating the gingerbread houses

I would keep a few bags of the candy (chocolate for me) that we like and dump the Halloween stuff. I’d keep the cookies and stuff from Christmas that I like or that looks good. Everything else gets dumped

Lol. I was so confused by the question. It's like asking what should I do with all this wine I was gifted?

I asked my kids to pick 5 pieces of Halloween candy to put away for gingerbread houses and they were so excited. I think they ended picking closer to 15 each! The rest we ate or threw out. I usually save a few lollipops for long car rides or occasional treats. Christmas I try not to get a ton but what comes in eventually gets eaten or thrown out.

I bring it to work. I had Halloween candy in a bowl on my desk for 2 or 3 days after Halloween. It pisses me off though because people would stop and actually complain that I didn't have the type of candy they liked. I bring it to school and either drop it off in the office or hand it out to my class.

Halloween candy gets donated to the troops 2 days after Halloween. We pick out a few pieces and donate the rest. Christmas candy isn't a problem for us, he just gets a few pieces in his stocking.
Cookies, etc. We eat it for a bit, but then just toss it. After a while we're just over all junk and move on.

Ha, yesterday i made DS go thru the candy bowl (still a bunch from halloween, plus hannukuh, plus random xmas stuff) and pick out 5 pieces to keep and then i dumped it all.

I still have the Ghiradelli chocolate, and the Trader Joes chocolate bark for me and DH, but other than that, i purged it all yesterday!

don't care that its wasteful, don't care at all. I want it gone and i'm tired of eating it all!
